Meet The TAG, Reykjavík on May 21st at Innovation House
The W3C TAG (Technical Architecture Group) is in charge of coordinating cross-technology architecture and the principles of web architecture at the World Wide Web Consortium – in other words, it’s kind of a technical steering group for web standards. We’re having a face to face meeting coming up in Reykjavík (kindly hosted by Vivaldi) in late May, 2019. We’re working on a host of design reviews across the spectrum of emerging web technologies, as well as security & privacy and design guidelines for API developers.
As part of our time here we’ll be holding a developer meet-up on the evening of the 21st of May (also hosted by Vivaldi) where we can let you know what we’re up to and get feedback from the web developer community about your priorities. ).
Format for the day will be an mini-unconference, kicking off at 18:30 with some lightning talks. We will be confirming lightning speakers soon. Weill end the event with food and drink.
Our lightning speakers will be:
- Hjalmar Gislason, Founder & CEO – GRID
- Alice Boxhall, Google and W3C TAG
- Guðmundur Már, Vivaldi
Come along find out what else we’re working on, get a heads-up of new Web standards and technologies in development and air the web technology issues that matter to you.

Vivaldi had the pleasure of hosting students from Tvíund, the student society for Computer Science students from Reykjavík University.
These „Science trips“ are quite common among university students in Iceland (vísindaferðir in Icelandic). Science Trip – is when a group visits an organization or place of interest. This time it was Vivaldi. The students learned about Vivaldi browser and could talk to the Vivaldi team in a relaxed setting.

Privacy is not just a personal matter. Do you know what data is being collected?

Privacy is not just a personal matter
The loss of our privacy is a loss for society and democracy. In a surveillance society, the impact of data collection is not just personal because collective privacy is lost too.

Students visiting Genki Instrument
Genki Instruments recently had the pleasure of hosting students from the departments of mathematics, physics and electrical engineering at the University of Iceland.
The students had a chance to learn a bit about the technical aspects of hardware/software development while also getting a glimpse into the lives of startup-founders that not too long ago were standing in their shoes.
Events such as this one are quite common amongst university students in Iceland, who regularly have the chance to lay down the books and visit companies in a relaxed setting on a Friday evening and learn about industry opportunities post graduation.
During their time at the electrical engineering department at the University of Iceland, two of Genki Instruments’ co-founders had a chance to participate in numerous such fun events, and are happy to now have hosted their first one.
